Above is a map of Indonesia. It is north of Australia and south of Thailand and Malaysia. The country is made up of over 17,000 islands. I will be located on Java, which is where the capital city Jakarta is located.
We were all so exhausted when we arrived in Hong Kong, especially since we didn't really sleep much on the flight. Traveling seemed to last forever. After arriving in Hong Kong we waited a couple hours for our next flight to Singapore. We all took advantage of the free wifi in the airport to contact our families and friends. Singapore is a gorgeous city. There is so much green space and beautiful trees lining the highways and streets and not a speck of dirt. We stayed in a hotel in Singapore so we could sleep for a couple of hours and SHOWER. It felt so good to shower after traveling for a full day. After sleeping for a couple hours we all met downstairs in the lobby to head back to the airport. From Singapore we flew straight to Jakarta. I had the shortest distance to travel out of all the ETAs, being located in Tangerang. Most others had to take another flight to their island.
When we finally arrived in Jakarta it felt like Christmas morning. I was so excited to be there and it was finally real! After a couple of days of traveling across the world, yes actually half way across, I finally made it to Tangerang, Indonesia! Tangerang is a city just outside of Jakarta. It took us about 40 minutes to drive from the airport to school yesterday.
When I first arrived at the school I was brought to the visitors quarters (which is shown above along with all my luggage! 2 large ones, one trekking backpack, and a small carry-on bag for the year!). My house is still being prepared and I will be staying here until Saturday when I head back to Jakarta to meet up with the ETAs to head to Bandung (located about 3 hours away in the mountains) for 3 weeks of orientation. When I get back from orientation I will move into my house!
