A couple weeks ago I went to Jakarta with my friend Anna. Anna works as the school secretary part time. She is in her last semester of university--she's studying tourism! She took me to Jakarta the way she normally goes--a long long journey involving many types of transportation. She first picked me up at school on her motorbike and we drove to her house about 10 minutes away. 2 ojeks picked us up from her house and drove us to an Angkot about 15 minutes away. Then the Angkot drove us for about 15 minutes to a bus that drove us to Jakarta. This bus ride, let me tell you, was an experience. The seats were so small that my knees were squished up in front of me and even though there was AC, I of course was still dripping sweat, per usual. Luckily the bus ride didn't take nearly as long as Anna thought it would. After all of our traveling we got to Jakarta 2 hours after leaving from school! (without traffic it can take about 30 minutes by taxi if I want to go to West Jakarta, the closest part to me)
Below are some photos from the National Museum. This museum is very popular among tourists. There were some incredible stone sculptures.
Gakik! Gakik is like the Olympics here at my school. There are 3 grades at my school: 10, 11, 12. Within each grade there are 5 classes. Each class stays together and has all their classes together. The students pick a class name and cheer and really get into it. Each class has a lot of pride and it's really fun to see!
Here are some photos from the Gakik performance--each class performed a skit.
