Short and Sweet

Here is a smattering of photos from my Thanksgiving week. After trekking in Sumatra, my friend Hayley and I headed back to Jakarta to spend time with friends and cook for Thanksgiving at our program's office. It was a little overwhelming preparing food in a tiny kitchen and lacking all the ingredients we needed, but we made it work! The program had turkeys and sides shipped in and we helped out with desserts and sides too! Friends and good food make for a great day! After that, we headed to Pulau Seribu for a little island time.

Jakarta sunset...gotta love the haze.

Our feast!

After enjoying good food and friends in Jakarta, Hayley and I headed to Pulau Seribu "Thousand Islands" which are off the coast of Jakarta. It was a much needed trip from our usual dirty, loud, city life. We took a 2 hour boat ride to Pramuka Island, where we stayed for a few days.

We went snorkeling the second day we were there and it was simply beautiful. We saw many beautifully colored fish and coral. We had 2 guides come with us and they were really nice and very knowledgeable about where we were snorkeling.

Below is the boat we took to go snorkeling! It rained in the early afternoon..poured for about 1 hour when we had just landed on an island for a break between snorkeling sites. Our main guide decided to grab his fins and mask and jump in during it!

Our two guides. The younger one on the left is a student studying tourism in Bandung and was staying on the island for a month long homestay to learn the ways of tourism there. The both of them were funny and kind.

coconut break!

a simply wonderful trip, with wonderful people.
