Play that Angklung

While we were all living it up at Hotel Sheraton Bandung, we were able to experience some wonderful things. For example, we went to an angklung performance. An angklung is a traditional Indonesian instrument made out of bamboo. It is made out of two bamboo tubes and it's attached to a bamboo frame. The tubes are carved to have a resonant pitch when struck and are tuned to octaves.

Below is an angklung! We were all lucky enough to get one during part of the show. People were given angklungs that were different notes and together we played a song! It was so cool to hear and be a part of!

Passing out the angklungs!

The professionals at work! They were unbelievable. They even played Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody! It was awesome!

All together now!

There were musical numbers as well as traditional dances performed. The cutest kids dressed in the most vibrant colors hammed it up on stage!

The picture above is of a ritual dance that is performed at circumcisions.

The hosts of the show!

Here's the stage above:

All the dancers together after the show!

We were all invited to dance with the dancers at the end of the show! So fun!

Beautiful peacock dancer!
